Welcome to Self-Care Sunday series volume 03. Over the past few years, I have learnt a great benefit from turning off my phone, notification or any source of distractions. Born as a Virgo, I tend to have perfectionist trait in my personality. Though sometime I appreciate it, other time it just backfires as I always have anxiety attack when I was in rural area with no internet connection – Yep. Its sucks. Whenever I turn off my phone, I was afraid if I’ll missed any important message from family member, love one or worst, from work.
These days, whenever I look around, either when I’m at Café, home or any even work place during lunch hour especially, I notice that everyone is always on their phone. Some ignore the person sitting in front of them and focus on their social media instead. I have made all these same mistakes a lot. In fact, every single day. Fay is guilty as charged. Hence, I really wish to focus less on my phone or social medias and reconnect physically with the person that I’m with.
Last few weekends ago, I went to secluded area and stay there overnight. The place still offered internet connection but I did not connect myself to the outside world. It’s just me and the beautiful nature. Although it’s not the first time I turn off my phone or laptop but I feel extremely great to be able to enjoy a moment of solitude with journal writing and reading my book. My phone? I used it only for taking photos. Well, a lot of photos. Of course, the thoughts of “this will look awesome for the gram” crossed far too often but I hold back and decided to post only after I return home.
I’LL BE BORED WITHOUT MY PHONE
Darn, I used to say that out far too often. However, whenever I manage to find a good time to “turn off”, I will take out my stash of journal and started to write. Hah, it’s time to be creative! Other than that, I also love to discuss and have a deep conversation with my partner. It could be about life, future plan, our dream and even economy or politic sometime. Of course, these conversation took place either during our relaxing Coffee break or cuddling session.
Do not be afraid to “turn off” your phone, notification and social medias.
It’s a great time for you to disconnect from your routine, your stress, your burden and it allow yourselves to heal from within. Your mind, soul and body will feel rejuvenated after a good amount of “off” time. You can simply enjoy your “time off” by reading the book that you have been wanting to finish. Or you can DIY your own manicure session, which I have done recently. By the time I went out from my self-care “time off” period, I always feel lighter and happier. My mind was in a good place and ready to tackle the real world. It feel really really great!
