With the recent elevation in our tourism industry, there are many new cafe on the rising which is not only attracting the tourist but also the local. So, I thought it would be fun to jump under the cafe – hunting’s bandwagon just like my friends Massy, Emmitchell and Jess (go check their blogs out!) by sharing few new Cafe place in Kota Kinabalu that you could visit on weekend nor weekdays.
Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to catch up with Emmitchell after so many attempt of “date” planning. We went to the new Hello Stranger Cafe located at The Walk, Riverson. Of course we wanted to try out this cafe after we saw Massy‘s Instagram post. Since we arrive during lunch hour, we’ve decided to try their slightly heavier meal instead of opting for breakfast menu.
The cafe ooze coziness even from the outside. Hence why it was always packed with customers. The cafe interior design is simple yet rustic. Plus, their music selection is perfect for a chill and relaxing mood. I could spend hours hanging out and catching up with my friends here.
Onto the menu, there are varieties of foods from big breakfast to lunch with an Asian fusion inspired. There are Vietnamese, Japanese, and Western. Since we both wanted to try out the Banh Mi (Viet Baguette), we ordered Chicken Teriyaki, Chicken Lemongrass Grill and Chicken’s Viet Summer Roll as a side dish. For drinks, I ordered Caramel Macchiatto while Emmitchell ordered Iced Cafe Latte. I have to say that the Banh Mi caught me by surprise. Usually, I’m not a big fan of any type of bread including baguette but this Viet baguette is a MUST try if you visited this cafe. Even though the baguette might look dry and tough but it actually packed with great flavors. The Viet summer roll is great when you dipped into the sauce. The sauce has minty and nutty flavors which suitable to pair with the plain rolls. As for the coffee, I was actually expecting a larger cup but despite being small, it’s definitely taste great. Though later I ordered another coffee because it was not enough for me. #coffeeisbae
After an hour or later, B finally join us which gave me another excuses to try on new menu. Since we wanted to try their cakes as well, we ordered the Napoleon and Carrot cakes along side my additional coffee, Viet Phin. For me, the cakes are “average” for the price of RM12 per slice. However, the Viet Phin definitely caught my heart. It was so damn good. I kid you not.
The final verdict,
I would totally recommended this cafe to all of you. Not only they have a great menu selection but it was also an awesome place to relax with your friends or even a date. I might visit again soon to try out their Japanese menu and perhaps try the breakfast set as well. My definite top recommendation would be the Viet Phin and Bahn Mi (Viet Baguette). Please check out their Facebook here and drop by to grab some coffee soon. If you love to read more detailed review on the foods and drinks that we had, please check out my friend Emmitchell blog post here (she also curated cafe’ hunting around Kota Kinabalu area in her Bites n Sips series.
